What some parents don’t know: First-time alcohol use DOUBLES in the months of June and July.

In Burke County:

  • The average age of first-time use is 11-13.
  • 1/4 of all youth surveyed admit to misusing prescription meds.
  • 37% of youth surveyed report being able to drink at home with no consequences.

Youth Prevention Coordinator Terri Moy will lead this important informational and discussion session on youth substance use and how to support each other as a community during these critical years. Staff from Burke Substance Abuse Network’s Underage Drinking Initiative and Prescription Medication Task Force will share information on youth substance use in Burke County.

Parents may submit questions in advance to  bcacdrcook@gmail.com.

Please RSVP to bcacdrcook@gmail.com or call Summit Community Church, (828)437-2761.
