Prevention experts gathered in Morganton, NC during the 17th Annual Carolinas Conference for Addiction & Recovery, November 4-6, 2015. Pictured here, NC ABC Commission Chairman Jim Gardner appears with Durham TRY Founder Wanda Boone and ABC Commission Coalitions Director Kat Haney.
During a lunch presentation on Wednesday, November 4, Chairman Gardner reported that the average age of first alcohol use in NC is age 14, and that by age 15, at least half of youth have tried alcohol. As director for the Talk It Out! campaign, Gardner is committed to bringing the problem into the forefront of conversation in households statewide, imploring parents to talk about the dangers of underage drinking with their children before it is too late. More about the Talk It Out! campaign, including facts, outreach videos and advertisements, and tool kits for local communities can be found at TalkItOutNC.org.
