BSAN Meeting Minutes, September 2015
Fifty people were present at the Morganton Community House on Friday, September 25, 2015 for this 7:30am breakfast meeting.
Burke Recovery Board member Joshua Singleton offered the invocation.
Joe Marks of Burke Recovery welcomed the group and began the meeting by welcoming the new United Way of Burke County, Chasity Poteat, the opportunity to be recognized and thanks for United Way’s continued support. He then asked that coalition members introduce themselves and provide the group with updates on their sectors and within their agencies.
In honor of Recovery Month, Joe thanked the Morganton City Council and Burke County Board of Commissioners for their official recognition of September as Recovery Month. Joe also gave thanks to BSAN founder and former Burke Recovery Executive Director, Jim VanHecke for his vision and hard work.
Rhonda Cook announced that the Carolina’s Conference will be held from November 4-6, with pre-conference training November 2 & 3. People who are interested in this professional educational opportunity should go to www.CarolinasConference.org.
Rhonda also announced that BSAN’s Underage Drinking Committee and RxEAP Task Force will host the first of five educational series for parents on Monday, October 5 from 7-8:30pm at the Lake James Conference Room at Grace Hospital. Rhonda then recognized the various BSAN initiatives for their contribution to Burke County as a vibrant recovery-oriented community of care including the following:

She then offered members then chance to recognize anyone who should be thanked.
Joe Marks then introduced the panel who gave brief personal stories about successful recovery through the various local fellowships: AlAnon, Christ Centered Recovery Program, Celebrate Recovery, Narcotics Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous.
To close, Joe read an entry from the Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book and invited the group back on Friday, October 30 at 7:30am for the next full coalition meeting.
